Match the card, then compare the price

Year, set, card number, and version should all match. Compare recently sold copies in similar condition; a seller’s asking price is only an asking price. Include delivery and tax before deciding.

Raw, graded, rookie, parallel—what do they mean?

Raw: ungraded. Graded: evaluated and encapsulated by a grading company; check the company’s certificate record. Rookie: an early-career card recognized as a rookie within that set. Parallel: another version of a base card, often with a different finish or numbering. Its price can be very different.

Give the actual copy a closer look

Ask for clear front and back photos. Check corners, edges, surface, and centering. Look for reprint labels and read the seller’s return policy. Don’t use a reference scan as proof of the copy being sold.

Protect it, then make it yours

Use a clean soft sleeve and a suitable rigid holder. Keep cards dry and out of direct sunlight. Record what you paid, add your own photo, and rank cards by what you enjoy—not what you hope they’ll earn.
